What does P0128 mean?
P0128 means the engine did not reach its normal operating temperature within the time the computer expected. It is watching coolant temperature against how long the engine has run and how cold it is outside. Almost always this is a thermostat stuck open, letting coolant circulate before the engine has warmed up.
Can I keep driving with P0128?
Low urgency
Safe to drive. The practical costs are poor fuel economy, a weak cabin heater, and more engine wear over time from running cold — worth fixing, not urgent.
Symptoms of P0128
Temperature gauge reading lower than usual, or slow to rise
Heater blowing cool air, or taking a long time to get warm
Worse fuel economy, since a cold engine runs a richer mixture
Check engine light, often appearing in cold weather
